Home Performance with ENERGY STAR
Rebate Programs:
NEW $100 Home Energy Audits
For qualified utility customers, our full-service Home Energy Audit (regular price $495) costs you only $100. Additional charges may apply for larger home and longer drive times.
In addition, by having an energy audit performed by a certified Home Performance with ENERGY STAR contractor, such as TerraLogos, MD utility companies will cover 50% of the costs of the most commonly recommended energy improvements up to $2,000.
To participate in these programs, you must be a customer of BGE, Pepco, Delmarva or SMECO and
- Have Central A/C or Air Source Heat Pump or other primary electric heating system,
If you are a BGE customer, and do not have one of these electric-powered systems, you can also qualify if you
- Have a Gas Furnace or Gas Boiler and receive gas service from BGE.
TerraLogos is a registered Contractor with the Home Performance Rebate Programs for these utilities. Your TerraLogos Auditor will work with you to maximize your rebate and process your filing.
REBATES on Energy Improvement Contracting:
50% rebate up to $2,000 for the most commonly needed improvements, such as insulation and air sealing, PLUS up to an additional $1,500 for equipment upgrades with ENERGY STAR equipment. Total available per home is $3,500 or more.
Your auditor will help coordinate your projects to take full advantage of the incentives that are appropriate for your home. Restrictions apply. Some improvements with incentives may not be appropriate for all homes.
ENERGY SAVER INSTALLS at no extra charge:
All qualifying utility customers are also eligible for the installation of up to $325 worth of energy saving products for no additional cost during your Home Energy Audit. This is our way of thanking you for investing in energy efficiency with gifts that will boost your energy savings even further.
The utilities also offer rebates on purchases of new Energy Star appliances. Your Home Energy Audit will identify your best opportunities for upgrades. See your utility company's web site below for details.

Maryland Home Energy Loan Program
Need Financing? To encourage homeowners to take the proven path of Home Performance, the MEA subsidizes the Home Energy Loan Program (HELP) to provide low-interest loans to homeowners who want to finance their recommended Home Performance energy improvements. The program is administered by the MD Clean Energy Center. With initial MEA funding of half-million dollars, this on-going program provides:
- Loan amounts from $1,500 to $30,000
- Low 6.99% fixed rate, unsecured loan. No home equity required.
- Select up to a 10 year term for low monthly payments; only $81/month for a $7,000 loan.
- Easy and quick approval by phone. No application or set-up fees.
- No penalty for pre-payment
- Broad credit approval standards: 640 or above credit score; no bankruptcy in 7 years; 50% debt to income ratio. Over 70% of applicants approved.

Energy Improvement Incentives for Business Customers:
Businesses can also receive rebates for performing energy efficiency improvements. There are a variety of programs available for to encourage businesses to invest in energy efficiency, including upgrading to ENERGY STAR lighting and HVAC equipment.

Federal Incentives for Energy Improvements:
Unfortunately, there is no 2012 Federal Tax Credit for energy efficiency projects.
A 2011 Federal Tax Credit is available for qualifying energy improvements completed between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2011. Here are the brief details:
- 10% up to $500 per primary residency for projects done in 2011; retrofits only; Materials only on envelope; Air sealing materials could be included as part of insulation projects; Materials & labor on HVAC. If you have claimed less than $500 total in all previous years combined, then you are eligible for claiming a credit this year up to a combined total for all years of $500.
There is a Federal Tax Credit for renewable energy installations completed by 2016. Here are the brief details:
- 30% uncapped on installations of renewable energy systems for both retrofits and new construction; for work done through 2016.
