Committed to Benefiting Our Customers and the Earth

TerraLogos (Latin/Greek): 1) wisdom of the earth, 2) a Baltimore-based energy auditing and contracting company that empowers people to gain control of their energy use by evolving their environments.

In the spring of 2006, a bunch of us began to brainstorm ideas about building a company that could bring the power of green building and sustainable design to a broader audience – the owners of existing homes and properties. With backgrounds in architecture, landscape architecture, community planning and education, we were all campers and tree huggers; the children of Eagle Scouts. Some of us had been recycling since the Carter administration; some of us had designed and built solar collectors; some of us were leaders in our fields.

The original idea took its foundation in design and sustainability, coupled with the realization that we were building a movement toward a new way of doing things. “Home Performance”, and the building science behind it, had produced blank stares among the friends and family who let us into their homes for those first audits. However, they soon realized the power of understanding this “whole-house approach.” They were able, at last, to have a sense of control over the comfort in their homes and the cost of attaining that comfort, as well as being part of a larger effort that could ultimately improve the environment for future generations.

Over the intervening years, TerraLogos and the new field of building performance have themselves evolved dramatically . While constantly sharpening the edge of our technical expertise, we know that our most important role is in working closely with homeowners and other property owners to evolve their environments; to be a trusted partner in finding and following the path toward improved health, comfort, cost and environment. Step-by-step, we will build a community that believes we can make a difference through energy efficiency.

And, that’s the TerraLogos difference.
